Academy Alumni Speak Out

Beth Cureton Koella

Class of 1990
Inventory Finance Director
21st Century Mortgage Corporation
Knoxville, Tennessee

"After attending the Academy from K5 through 12th grade, I enrolled at Bob Jones University, earning my Bachelor’s degree in Financial Management. After working for two years in the business office of a church and school in Chicago, I returned to Knoxville and began my career with 21st Mortgage.

"My parents brought me up with strong Christian values and placed me in an environment at the Academy that reinforced those same values. I was thoroughly grounded in my faith. The lessons I learned through my school experience have helped to strengthen me at times when I was under enormous peer pressure. We had wonderful teachers at the academy that lived what they taught.

"There are not enough good things I could say about my preparation at the Academy. To current Academy students, I would say that no matter how Christ-centered your family, church or school are, until you choose to give God preeminence in your life - spending time daily in His Word and prayer you will never see what He can do with your life."

Daniel Cox

Class of 1998
Pastor, Indian River Baptist Church
Edgewater, Florida

"Temple Baptist Academy provided me with much more than just a high school diploma; it was while I was a student there I found the will of God for my life. Our education was designed to add the essentials of reading, writing and arithmetic to the pursuit of God's best for our lives. I will always be grateful for the opportunity my parents provided me to attend the Academy."

Rebekah Newby

Class of 1993
Pediatric Respiratory Therapist
University of Tennessee Medical Center
Knoxville, Tennessee

"After attending a public school through the 9th grade, the Lord opened the door for me to enroll in the Academy. I asked my parents about going to the academy. I knew that it would be a great sacrifice for them. We lived almost 30 minutes away. My mother took a second job that helped pay for gas. But for them, it was worth the sacrifice. Each of my teachers were a great blessing to me, the Lord truly worked in my life. I believe that I was prepared to do whatever the Lord has for me.

"After earning my associate’s degree in respiratory therapy from Roane State Community College in 1997, I began working as a pediatric respiratory therapist at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

"Our sons are second-generation students at the Academy. Their teachers support and teach the very same values and principles my husband and I teach our boys at home. The love of Christ is shown daily in their classrooms. The education our children are receiving is Bible-based. The standards for academic achievement and excellence are challenging.

"I believe the Academy is helping us prepare our sons for whatever God has for them. I will always be willing to tell others what Temple Baptist Academy means to me and my family. "

Kari Cox Arsenault

Class of 1996
Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
Mercy Medical Center St. Mary’s
Knoxville, Tennessee

"I am grateful to say that I had the opportunity to graduate from the Academy. After graduating, I attended Roane State Community College, graduating from the nursing program as an R.N.

"Our daughters are blessed to have the opportunity to attend. They love it! It is a financial sacrifice for our family but we are willing to make the investment because it is worth every penny. My husband and I need never worry about what our daughters are being taught because we know it is honoring to Christ and the truth. Thank you to all who serve in the Academy for what you mean to our family!"

Matt Sexton

Class of 1989
Engage International

"I remember my days at the Academy with great fondness. The spirit was always pleasant. The faculty was compassionate and truly interested in every student. The athletics and academics were excellent. It is wonderful to see that twenty years later this institution is continuing to the glory of God."
