Tri-Cities Christian vs Temple – Regional Championship – 4/23/2010

The Regional Championship Game was held on Friday between the Eagles of Tri-Cities and the Royal Crusaders of Temple Baptist on the Crusader's home field. During the regular season match-ups, the teams were 1-1 against each other. Because of this, both teams came out fired up. Tri-Cities was able to score first, going up 0-1. The Crusaders kept their heads up and continued to fight. Midway through the half, Tri-Cities scored another goal to make the score 0-2. The Crusaders had some nice shots, but couldn't seem to score a goal. At halftime the Crusaders were down 0-2. In the second half the Crusaders made some adjustments and came out ready to go. Halfway through, Tri-Cites scored another two goals. The Crusaders were now down four goals, but kept fighting. In the end, the Crusaders lost the game with the final score of 0-4. Brandon Savage and John Whitney were both name to the all-tournament team for their great efforts during the game. The Crusaders have one more game against Collegedale on May 6, 2010.

Collegedale vs Temple 4/20/2010

The Royal Crusaders played at home on Tuesday evening against Collegedale Christian. The Crusaders got off to a great start in the first half. Eleven minutes into the game, the Crusaders scored their first goal of the game. Nick Sexton crossed the ball from the flag, finding Nick Retterer who was able to put it into the back of the net. The Crusaders continued to dominate the first half, and led at half time with the score of 1-0. In the second half, the Crusaders struggled at first to find their rhythm. Collegedale was able to score about halfway through the half, tying the game up 1-1. The Crusaders kept their heads up and finally got another goal about 35 minutes into the half. Alex Provonsha shot the ball from about 20 yards out and went into the net to give the Crusaders the lead. The Crusaders stepped up and finished the game strong. The Crusaders won with the final score of 2-1. The Crusader will play in the regional championship game Friday, April 23 against the winner of the Berean Academy and Tri-Cities Christian game which is on Thursday, April 22.

Temple vs Tri-Cities Christian 4/9/2010

The Royal Crusaders traveled up to Blountville, TN to face their rival Tri-Cities Christian School. In the first half, the Crusaders got off to a great start. The team was able to control the game and managed to score three goals before halftime. Nick Sexton scored the first goal after he received a nice pass from Tyler Snow. Fifteen minutes later Nick Sexton took another shot from about 20 yards out and scored another goal. The Crusaders scored their third of the game about 31 minutes into the half when Alex Provonsha scored after he received a pass from Nick Sexton from about 30 yards out. The Crusaders went up 3-0. In the last few seconds of the half, Tri-Cites was able to put one into the goal to make the score 3-1 at halftime. In the second half, the Crusaders knew they had a lot of work to do despite being up two goals. The Eagles of Tri-Cities came out in the second half and scored three goals to take the lead 3-4. The Crusaders held their composure and continued to fight hard. Within a matter of minutes, the Crusaders were able to score three goals again to take the lead, making the score 6-4. The first goal came from Nick Sexton, who scored from a penalty kick. The second goal was off a corner kick taken by Nick Sexton to Brad Finley. Brad was able to put the ball into the net. The third goal of the half was also scored by Nick Sexton off of a penalty kick. With twenty minutes still to go in the half, the Crusaders could not let down. At about the thirty-minute mark, the Tri-Cities were able to get two quick goals to tie the game up at 6. Both teams began to push hard to get the last goal before time was up. Tri-Cities was able to get another goal going up 6-7 now. The Crusaders had many shots, but could not get anything to go in. The Crusaders lost a tough game with the final score 6-7. The Crusaders learned from some things they did wrong in the game. The Crusaders will play at home next against Collegedale on April 20, 2010.

Temple @ Berean Academy 4/6/2010

The Crusaders traveled down to Chattanooga, TN to face Berean Academy. In the first half the Crusaders got off to a rough start. Berean was able to score first at just three minutes into the game. The Crusaders bounced back and scored two minutes later. Brad Finley passed the ball to Alex Provonsha, who then kicked it into the net. The score was now tied 1-1. Both teams fought hard, but Berean was able to get another goal halfway through the half. Going down again, the Crusaders worked even harder to score. About thirty-minutes in, the Crusaders were finally able to get their second goal. Brad Finley scored the goal after receiving a pass from Nick Sexton. The score was tied up once again at 2-2. Near the end of the half, Berean was able to score another goal making the halftime score 2-3. In the second half the Crusaders made some adjustments. Temple started dominating the game. Midway through the half, Berean caught the Royal Crusaders off guard and were able to score another goal making the score 2-4. Finally, at thirty-one minutes into the half, Nick Sexton scored a goal after receiving a pass from Tyler Snow to make the score 3-4. The Crusaders continued to push to score another goal. In the end, the Crusaders were not able to score again. They lost the game with the final score of 3-4. The Crusaders are now 5-5 and will play their rivals Tri-Cities Christian School on Friday, April 9, 2010. 

Temple @ Cumberland Gap High School 4/5/2010

The Royal Crusaders traveled up to Cumberland Gap, Tennessee to face the Cumberland Gap High School Panthers on Monday afternoon. In the first half, the Crusaders got off to a great start. The Crusaders were able to score within the first seven minutes of the game. Brad Finley scored when he received a pass from Nick Retterer. Three minutes later Tyler Snow got on an break away and gave the Crusaders their second goal of the game. The Crusaders went up 2-0. Halfway through the half, Nick Sexton took an corner kick. A player from Cumberland Gap touched the ball with his hand, giving the Crusaders a penalty kick. Nick Sexton took the kick and was able to put it in the net to make the score 3-0. Near the end of the half, Tyler Snow got his second goal of the game when he got on an breakaway again. The final goal of the half came from Brad Finley who scored off of a pass from Alex Provonsha. The score at half time was 5-0. In the second half the Crusaders worked on passing and possessing the ball. The Crusaders were able to score one more goal before the end of the game. Alex Provonsha took the ball to the corner and crossed it into middle, finding Brad Finley who was able to place the ball into the net. The Panthers scored one goal in the second half to make the final score 6-1. The Crusaders were glad to get their first road win of the season, especially against a public high school. The Crusaders are now 5-4 overall and will face Berean Academy in their next game.

Temple @ King’s Academy 4/1/2010

After a tough loss to Maryville, the Crusaders had to face the tough King’s Academy team. On Thursday evening, the Crusaders traveled down to Seymour, TN to face King’s Academy. In the first half, the Crusaders got off to a great start. The Crusaders were able to score a goal in the first seven minutes of the game. Brad Finley received a nice pass from Nick Sexton and then was able to finished by placing the ball into the net. The Crusaders went up one nothing. The Crusaders fought hard and kept up the pressure, but about half way through the half King’s Academy was able to score several goals. The Crusaders fell behind 1-4 before they knew it. The Crusaders kept their heads up. Near the end of the half, the Crusaders were able to get another goal. Brad Finley scored another goal after receiving a pass from Nick Sexton. The score at half time was 2-4. In the second half the Crusaders were exhausted but continued to fight hard. King’s Academy were able to score another four goals before the end of the game. The Crusaders lost to a good team with the final score of 2-9. The Crusaders have learned several things about the game. The Crusaders will play Cumberland Gap on Monday, April 5, 2010.

Temple @ Maryville Christian 3/30/2010

On Tuesday evening, the Crusaders traveled across town to face Maryville Christian. In the first half, the Crusaders got off to a rough start. Maryville caught the Crusaders asleep and was able to score a quick goal in the first few minutes. Half way through the half, Maryville scored another goal going up two goals. The Crusaders kept on fighting and was able to score a goal at about twenty-five minutes into the half. Nick Sexton got the ball from Justin Sullivan and was then able to place it into the net giving the Crusaders their first goal of the game. The score was now 1-2. Before the end of the half, Maryville got another goal, making the score at half time 1-3. In the second half the Crusaders made some adjustments. The Crusaders tried to step up their defense, but Maryville was able to get another goal, making the score 1-4. The Crusaders did not give up though they were down three goals. The Crusaders got an corner kick, Nick Sexton took the kick and found Tyler Snow who headed the ball into the goal. The score was 2-4. After the goal the Crusaders got fired up. Halfway through the half, Maryville got their fifth goal of the game, making the score 2-5. Temple kept on fighting and finally were able to get another goal. Nick Sexton took a shot from about thirty yards out. The ball hit the cross bar, bounced down, and Brad Finley was there to put it in the net. The Crusaders end up losing a tough game with the final score of 3-5. The team will learn from the game and hope to do better in their next game which is against King’s Academy on Thursday, April 1.

Shenandoah vs Temple 3/29/2010

After a tough weekend, the Crusaders played at home on Monday evening against Shenandoah. Despite the rough field conditions, the Crusaders came out ready to play. In the first half the Crusaders were able to dominate the game. The Crusaders end up scoring four goals before half time. Tyler Snow got the first goal of the game at about three minutes into the half when he received a pass from Nick Retterer. Brandon Savage scored the next goal off a breakaway. The third goal of the half happened when Nick Sexton took a corner kick and placed it perfectly to Justin Sullivan who was able to put it into the goal. Alex Provonsha scored the fourth goal on a breakaway. The score at half time was 4-0. In the second half the Crusaders continued to control the game, scoring six more goals before the end of the game. Scoring in the second half were Brad Finley, Tyler Snow, Steven Jones, Aaron Green, John Whitney, and Nick Sexton. Five out of the six goals in the second half had assists. Nick Sexton had two assists, while Justin Sullivan, Steven Jones, and Tyler Snow each had one assist. The Crusader ended up winning the game easily with the final score of 10-0. Everyone on the team was able to play in the game, and some of the team played in positions they had never played in before. The Crusaders are now 4-2 overall and will face Maryville Christian, Tuesday, March 30, 2010.

Temple @ South Haven / Franklin Road 3/26 – 3/27

The Royal Crusaders traveled to Springfield and Murfreesboro, TN to face South Haven Christian School and Franklin Road Christian School. On Friday the Crusaders faced South Haven. In the first half the Crusaders got off to a sluggish start. The Patriots of South Haven were able to score two goals. The Crusaders had a few chances but could not get any thing to go in the goal. The score at halftime was 0-2. In the second half the Crusaders started controlling the ball and taking several shots on goal. South Haven was able to score two more goals before the end of the game. The Crusaders fought hard to get their shots to go in, but once again nothing went in. The Crusaders lost to a good team with the final score of 0-4. After a tough loss on Friday, the Crusaders played Franklin Road on Saturday. The Crusaders came out a little flat in the first half. Franklin Road took an early lead going up two to zero. The Crusaders fought hard but could not get anything shots to go in. In the second half the Crusaders made some adjustments in an effort to make a come back. The Crusaders fought hard, but Franklin Road was able to score three more goals before the end of the half. The Crusaders lost with the final score of 0-5. The Crusaders were disappointed that they did not win but know what they need to work on. The Crusaders will next play Shenandoah Baptist at home on March 29, 2010.

Maryville Christian vs Temple 3/23/2010

On Tuesday afternoon, the Crusaders played at home against cross-town rival Maryville Christian. In the first half, the Crusaders came alive when they scored their first goal. Nick Sexton kicked a corner kick directly to Alex Provonsha who was able to put it in the net. This was Alex's first goal of the season. The Crusaders went up 1-0. The Crusaders fought hard the rest of the half, having many chances to score. The score at half time was 1-0 with Temple leading. In the second half the Crusaders were caught off guard when Maryville scored a goal in the first five minutes of the half, tying the game at 1-1. The Crusaders regained their composure and continued to fight hard. The hard work paid off when Brad Finley was tripped in the box and the Crusaders were rewarded with a penalty kick. Tyler Snow took the penalty kick and scored the second goal for the Crusaders. The Crusaders started dominating the game, taking many shots. About thirty minutes into the half, Nick Sexton took a shot just out side the eighteen that went in the upper corner or the net for the Crusaders third goal of the game. Justin Sullivan was credited with the assist on the goal. Four minutes later, Nick Sexton received a cross from Tyler Snow and was able to put it in the back of the net. The Crusaders went up 4-1. The rest of the half the Crusaders stepped up the defense and were able to get their third win of the season by defeating Maryville Christian 4-1. The Crusader will travel to South Haven Christian School and Franklin Road this weekend.

Tri-Cities vs Temple 3/20/2010

After the big win on Friday, the Crusaders had to get up Saturday to face their rival, Tri-Cities Christian School. In the first half, the Crusaders allowed the Eagles of Tri-Cities to score two goals within the first fifteen minutes of the game. The Crusaders kept on fighting and were able to put one in to the goal within the last two minutes in the half. One of the players from Tri-Cities tripped Brad Finley in the box, giving the Crusaders a penalty kick. Nick Sexton was the one to take the kick and score the goal. The score was now 1-2. A minute later, Nick Retterer placed the ball into the net to tie the game at 2-2 when he received the ball from a corner-kick by Nick Sexton. At halftime the score was tied 2-2. In the second half, the Crusaders came out fired up and ready to play hard. The Crusaders were able to score their third goal of the game at about 15 minutes into the half. Nick Sexton scored another penalty kick after a foul was committed by Tri-Cities in the box. The Crusaders went up 3-2. The Crusaders fought hard the rest of the half to hold on to the lead. In the end, the Crusaders were able to get the victory with the final score of 3-2. Tyler Snow, Nick Sexton, Brandon Savage, Bradley Nicely, Nick Retterer, and Brad Finley were selected to the play in the classic all-star game. Nick Sexton was also named as the MVP for the Royal Crusaders during the tournament. The Crusaders are now 2-0 and will face Maryville Christian on Tuesday, March 23, 2010.

Berean Academy vs Temple 3/19/2010

The Royal Crusaders opened their season at home with the Royal Crusaders’ Kick-Off Classic. In the first game, the Crusaders faced Berean Academy. In the first few moments of the first half, the Crusaders were a little timid, but quickly got into the game. Within the first ten minutes of the half, Tyler Snow was able to put score a goal with a nice pass from Nick Sexton. Four minutes later, Tyler Snow got on a break away and was able to get his second goal of the game. About 18 minutes into the half, Brad Finley was able to get his first varsity goal with the pass from Nick Sexton. At halftime, Temple was up 3-0. In the second half, the Crusaders continued dominating with two more goals. The first goal was scored by Nick Retterer when he received the ball from Nick Sexton. The final goal of the game was scored by Brad Finley who received the ball from Hamilton Provonsha. The Crusaders won their first game of the season with the final score of 5-0. The Crusaders will face Tri-Cities on Saturday in the classic.
