Coaching staff

The Academy has been blessed with a coaching staff with solid, consistent Christian testimonies. Each member of the coaching staff has multiple years of experience and all Academy coaches have been certified by the American Sports Education Association.

 

Todd Hickman

Athletic director; Basketball - Jr. High Boys

Coach Hickman has eighteen years of coaching experience, including fifteen years at the Academy. His basketball teams have won the regional championship in 2000 and 2006 and the TAACS state championship in 2006. He was named ETCAC Coach of the Year in 2006 by his peers.

Coach Hickman played varsity basketball and baseball at Maranatha Baptist Bible College. He and his wife, Denise, have three sons, Preston, Pierson, and Parker.


Tony Sengmany

Basketball - Boys Varsity

Coach Sengmany has many years of basketball experience.  This is his first year coaching at the Academy.  He played his successful college career basketball at the Crown College where he received his degree.  He and his wife, Rachel, also serve with the pastor assisting with the youth ministry of the Temple Baptist Church.


Shannon Sexton

Soccer - Varsity Boys

Coach Sexton has been head coach for the Academy three years. Under his direction, the Crusaders won the regional and state championships in 2006, and repeated as regional champions in 2008. He was voted ETCAC Soccer Coach of the Year for 2006 by his peers.

He is also currently head coach for The Crown College where he has led in the resurgence of the soccer program. He was named NCCAA Coach of the Year for the Mideast Region Division II for 2007.

Coach Sexton and his wife, Kristi, have two children, Nick and Alli.


Bill Swain

Volleyball - Varsity girls

Coach Swain has had thirty-nine years of coaching experience. He is in his second year at the Academy. Through the years, he has coached volleyball, softball, soccer, cross country, basketball, and baseball, as well as track and field. His teams have won eighteen conference championships in the state of Michigan, as well as three state titles. His first Academy team won the conference title. He was named ETCAC Volleyball Coach of the Year for 2007.

Coach Swain and his wife, Sharon, have three grown children, Aaron, Rebecca, and Joanna. They also have 12 grandchildren, four of whom live with their parents, who are missionaries in Cambodia.


Jamie Mock

Basketball - Varsity Girls

Coach Mock has eleven years of coaching experience at the Academy. Her volleyball teams won both regional and TAACS state championships in 2003. Her basketball teams won the TAACS state basketball title in 2004 and the regional championship in 2003. She was named ETCAC Coach of the Year for both 2003 and 2004.

Coach Mock is an Academy graduate, lettering for four years in both basketball and volleyball. She played three years of volleyball at The Crown College. Coach Mock and her husband, Michael, have one son, Griffin, one daughter, Mackenzie, and are expecting their third.


Debbie McConnon

Cheerleading  

Mrs. McConnon has been coaching the cheerleading squads at the Academy for eight years.

She was a member of the varsity cheerleading teams in both high school and college.

Mrs. McConnon and her husband, Edward, have two daughters, Brittany - an Academy graduate, and Brianna.
