Private Instruction at the Crown Music Conservatory
All students have the opportunity to be involved in private music lessons through the fine facilities and instructors of the Crown Music Conservatory.
Vocal instruction
Beginning voice - There is no prerequisite for this class and it is designed for the student who has not had previous vocal instruction. Students will learn basic vocal skills, sound production, and proper vocal care. Incidental instruction in basic music theory and concepts of reading music is included.
Intermediate voice – Students will be auditioned to determine their level of skill and placed accordingly.
Instrumental instruction
Keyboard instruments
Beginning Piano - There is no prerequisite for this class and it is designed for the student who has never played the piano. Students will learn basic technical skills, performance practice, music theory, and basic concepts of reading music. Piano students who do not have a piano at home may practice in the Crown Music Conservatory Piano Lab for an additional fee of $25 per semester.
Intermediate and advanced piano – Students will be auditioned to determine their level of skill and placed accordingly.
Organ - Students must demonstrate a significant level of keyboard proficiency to be considered for private instruction.
Brass instruments
Beginning Brass - This course includes beginning study of a brass instrument (trumpet, trombone, tuba) and is designed for students with no prior experience on such an instrument. Basic skills such as correct hand position, tone production, and note reading will be taught. Rental or purchase of an instrument is required.
Intermediate and advanced brass – Students will be auditioned to determine their level of skill and placed accordingly.
Woodwind instruments
Beginning Woodwind - This course includes beginning study of a woodwind instrument, (flute, clarinet, saxophone, etc.), designed for students with no prior experience on such an instrument. Basic skills such as correct hand position, tone production and note reading will be taught. Rental or purchase of an instrument is required.
String instruments
Beginning Strings - This course includes beginning study of a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, etc.) and is designed for students with no prior experience on such an instrument. Basic skills such as correct hand position, tone production, and note reading will be taught. Rental or purchase of an instrument is required.
Intermediate and advanced strings – Students will be auditioned to determine their level of skill and placed accordingly.
Beginning classical and acoustic guitar - This course includes beginning study of the guitar designed for students with no prior experience on such an instrument. Basic skills such as correct hand position, tone production, and note reading will be taught. Rental or purchase of an instrument is required.
General information
Enrollment: To enroll, please complete the Registration Form and return it to the Crown Music Conservatory. You may also send it in by mail or fax. Please see the contact information on the back of this page.
Recitals: All students will participate in a recital at the conclusion of each semester. Recitals provide an excellent opportunity for students to develop confidence and strive for mastery.
Scheduling: Students will receive one half-hour lesson each week. Your child’s instructor will contact you directly to arrange a lesson time. Temple Baptist Academy students attending late stay will be transported directly to their lessons.
Cancellations: Please notify instructors directly about cancellations. When possible, notify the instructor at least 24 hours in advance so that they may schedule accordingly. In the event you cannot contact the instructor personally, call the Conservatory at 865.938.8186, extension 427. Absences without prior notice being given to the instructor cannot be rescheduled. Lessons cancelled by the instructor will be rescheduled.
Instruments: Students must supply their own instrument for lessons and practicing. For most instrument rentals, we recommend Lunsford’s Musical Instruments - 865.523.0276. For guitar rentals, we recommend Broadway Sound - 865.637.1644
Practice Time: Daily practice is required. Parents are strongly encouraged to personally monitor their child’s practice time and progress.
